Utah Autism Resources

It might be a shock to hear that your child has been diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Parents who experience this often feel a wide range of strong emotions — including stress, anxiety, fear, anger, sadness, worry and much more.

Luckily today, we understand so much more about autism than we did even a few decades ago. Thanks to advanced studies and research, many of the common signs, symptoms and causes of autism have been revealed, all of which helps professionals diagnose ASD more accurately for younger children.

Not only that, but there are many very effective treatment options available today, including applied behavioral analysis, or ABA therapy — a science-based approach to learning and behavior that Blue Gems ABA offers.

There are also a variety of resources that support parents of children with autism in a number of ways.

Here are some of the best Utah autism resources available.

Table Of Contents

Utah Parent Center

The Utah Parent Center was created to help parents help their children with disabilities and special health-care needs to live included, productive lives as members of the community. They do that by providing accurate information, valuable training, effective advocacy and empathetic peer support — all based on the concept of parents helping parents.

The non-profit group was founded in 1983 by parents of children and youth with all disabilities to help other parents throughout the state who are facing similar challenges. The staff has helped to build collaborative networks with health, human service and education professionals, organizations and agencies.

There are loads of resources the Center offers for parents of children with autism. More information can be found on their website or by calling (800) 468-1160.

The Melisa Nellesen Center for Autism

The Melisa Nellessen Center for Autism at Utah Valley University works to connect individuals living and working with autism spectrum disorder to the variety of supports that are offered in their local community. The organization seeks to assist individuals and families in becoming familiar with, and connected to, the resources that are available near them.

The Center provides information on diagnostic services, early intervention, school-age support services, transition services, adult services and more.

You can find more information on all they do on their website or by calling (801) 863-8888.

Utah Department of Health & Human Services

The state Department of Health & Human Services runs the Autism Systems Development Program. It seeks to advance, empower and educate the lives of individuals who are affected by autism spectrum disorder.

It does so by monitoring occurrence, reducing the age of the first diagnosis, referring to services, facilitating research, and providing outreach and education.

They also provide a list of autism resources for individuals with ASD and their family members, including direct links to many organizations, providers and more.
