Maryland Autism Resources
It can be quite overwhelming to hear that your child has been diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). In addition to sadness, parents may immediately feel a wave of strong emotions such as anger, stress, fear, anxiety and worry — all at once.
Fortunately, we know so much more about autism than we did even as recently as 20 years ago. Thanks to the wealth of knowledge that’s been gained through advanced studies and research, professionals have more tools at their disposal to help accurately diagnosis ASD at younger ages.
There are also more treatment options available today, including applied behavioral analysis, or ABA therapy, which is widely regarded as one of the most effective plans. Blue Gems ABA offers this evidence-based approach to behavior and learning throughout Maryland.
Parents also have access to a variety of resources that can help them in a number of ways.
Here are some of the best Maryland autism resources that are available.

Autism Society of Maryland
The Autism Society of Maryland operates as an affiliate of the Autism Society of America. Its mission is to help everyone in the Autism community find connections and be empowered to gain the resources they need to live life to its fullest.
The organization serves individuals on the autism spectrum, their families and the community at large. It does so by providing advocacy, support and information, and by promoting autism awareness.
The Autism Society of Maryland provides a wealth of different information and resources, as well as holds fundraisers throughout the year to help not only run its organization but to drive the support of autism in general forward.
More information can be found on its website or by calling (410) 290-3466.
The Parent’s Place of Maryland
Navigating the web of health care services and education for children with autism can be very difficult. The Parent’s Place of Maryland seeks to provide guidance and support to those parents, and to any parent who has a child with a disability.
On the organization’s website, you can search for resources by topic, such as back to school, behavior, early childhood, health, special education, transition and more.
In addition, they offer one-on-one support to families who have children with a disability, and all of this comes from someone who knows what it means to have a child with a disability or special health-care need.
They also provide interactive trainings for parents and professionals through the use of hands-on activities.
More information can be found on the organization’s website or by calling (800) 394-5694.
Pathfinders for Autism
Pathfinders for Autism is a wonderful resource for parents in Maryland. The organization was founded in 2000 by parents of children with autism and has grown to become the largest autism organization in the state.
The goal of the organization is to support and improve the lives of anyone affected by autism. It does so by providing expansive, customized programming and by providing resources, information and training — all of which is free of charge.
Pathfinders for Autism provides information about safety resources, therapies and treatments, tips and articles, what autism looks like by age, recorded webinars and zoomcast interviews, and information about understanding insurance.
You can find more information on their website or by calling their helpline (443) 330-5341.
Maryland DOE Division of Rehabilitation Services
The state Department of Education’s Division of Rehabilitation Services offers a program that helps older people who have autism find jobs and gain the skills they need to work.
Done through the Autism Program Planning Success for Employment program, or APPS, the organization offers virtual and in-person training, small group and interactive learning sessions.
