Baltimore MD Local Resources
Receiving an autism spectrum disorder (ASD) diagnosis for your child marks the beginning of a new chapter, one filled with questions, unique milestones and the need for a strong support network.
In Baltimore, families are situated in a hub for neurodevelopmental research and advocacy. From world-renowned clinical institutes to grassroots parent networks, the Charm City offers a wealth of resources designed to empower families and help children with autism lead fulfilling lives.
At Blue Gems ABA, we believe that high-quality, evidence-based applied behavior analysis (ABA therapy) is most effective when paired with a community-wide support system. We are here to help you navigate the local landscape so your child can thrive in every environment.
Below is a guide to essential, non-competitive local resources available to the Baltimore autism community.
Pathfinders for Autism
Pathfinders for Autism is the largest autism resource organization in the state. Founded by parents, including former Baltimore Orioles player B.J. Surhoff, this non-profit acts as a one-stop-shop for families.

They provide an extensive online database of providers, host free workshops on topics such as safety and financial planning, and organize family fun events at local venues the National Aquarium and the Maryland Zoo.
You can reach them at (443) 330-5341 or pathfindersforautism.org.
The Parents’ Place of Maryland (PPMD)
When it comes to navigating the healthcare and education systems, PPMD is an invaluable ally. As Maryland’s Parent Training and Information Center, they focus on empowering families to be effective advocates for their children.
Whether you need help understanding a new diagnosis, navigating a complex IEP meeting or connecting with a Parent Partner who has shared your experience, PPMD provides the tools to help you succeed.
Call them at (410) 768-9100 or visit them online at ppmd.org.
Center for Autism Services, Science and Innovation (CASSI) at Kennedy Krieger
Formerly known as CARD, CASSI at the Kennedy Krieger Institute is a global leader in neurodevelopmental care. While they are a clinical powerhouse, they offer a range of family-focused services including interdisciplinary evaluations, research opportunities and community outreach programs.
Their Early Signs tutorials and family support groups are highly regarded by Baltimore residents seeking top-tier clinical guidance.

Baltimore City Public Schools-Child Find
For children who aren’t enrolled in school yet, Child Find is the essential gateway for accessing special education services. If you suspect your child has a developmental delay or disability, Child Find provides free screenings and evaluations to determine eligibility for an IEP.
For children under age 3, families should contact the Maryland Infants and Toddlers Program to start the early intervention process.
Their phone number is (410) 396-0775, and you can gain more information at baltimorecityschools.org.
Maryland Autism Waiver Registry
The Autism Waiver is a vital program that allows eligible children and young adults to receive Medicaid-funded services such as respite care and environmental accessibility adaptation to support them in their homes and communities.
Because demand is high and the waiting list can be long, it is imperative that families call the registry to add their child’s name as soon as possible.
The program is administered by the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE).
You can reach them at (866) 417-3480.
